Welcome to Orient, Iowa! Poplulation 408 On June 7, 1869, The official organization of Orient Township occurred., known as Dayton Township at that time, but through petitions to the supervisors, the name was changed shortly after. Some believed it was changed to Orient because the county seat of Summerset, which is Fontanelle, had already been established and since "Orient" meant "to the East" they were referring to "East of Summerset." Orient was filed for record March 12, 1879 by Charles E. Perkins. |
